Why Should We Use Public Transportation?
Indonesia is one of the largest countries in the world without a well-functioning public transportation system. The average number of public transportation users has decreased rapidly. Most of the Indonesian people prefer to use their personal vehicle rather than public transportation. Because of this fact, every morning in a big city such as Jakarta, Surabaya, or Yogyakarta we can see the road full of motorcycles and cars. In fact, we can get more advantages if we use public transportation. What are they?
Firstly, using
public transportation can drop the number of transportation on the road, so the traffic jam can be reduced. It is because a public transportation such as bus and train
can carry many passengers, while with a personal transportation such as motorcycle, no more than two persons may ride on it.
Secondly, riding public transportation saves money. For example by Trans Jogja, we
can buy the ticket with only Rp3.600,00. This ticket can be used to ride Trans
Jogja to any destination, no matter how long the trip. If we step off of one
Trans Jogja bus and catch another Trans Jogja bus, we would not have to buy
another ticket. Besides that, with public transportation we can avoid parking
fees.
Thirdly, using public
transportation can significantly reduce air pollution. Based on a fact, personal
vehicles are a major pollution contributor, more than half of the carbon
monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted
into air. According to a research, buses emit 80 percent less carbon monoxide
than a car, while rail emits almost none.
In conclusion, we should
use public transportation to decrease traffic jam and air pollution, it can
also save our money. Besides that, the government should Improve the quality of
public transportation and increase the facilities and infrastructure, so the
people will automatically switch to public transportation and Indonesia will be
a comfort country.
